“No-Nonsense” Donor Trusts The Catholic Foundation With Her Legacy

Rose BrinksRose Brinks is the kind of practical legacy builder who uses the St. Thomas Aquinas scientific method of objections and replies to rationalize her current gifts and gifts beyond her lifetime through The Catholic Foundation.

Rose has long been considered a character with a logical approach to life. In a 2011 article in a northern Colorado newspaper, Rose Brinks was described as “no-nonsense” and the “epitome of pioneer spirit.”

Rose comes from hardy stock, which served her well as she and her husband Professor James S. Brinks bought a 100-acre farm in LaPorte, raising a blended family of nine children and many four-legged creatures. Rose and Jim both lost their first spouses young, found each other, and she lost Jim to Alzheimer’s after a ten-year battle in 2015.

Nothing prepared Rose at age 88 for her unexpected diagnosis of ovarian cancer or for the chemo, surgery, radiation and side effects that followed. Rose is grateful to have been given time to put together a charitable plan.

Rose first worked with The Foundation to create nine charitable gift annuities, one for each child. She was pleased with the way Lisa Kukura collaborated with her on these gifts, and so recently, after selling the family farm, she donated a major gift to create a Donor-Advised Fund (charitable giving fund) to make an impact on many charities and churches in northern Colorado.

Rose is happy to leave a legacy from her and her late husband’s hard work by making an impact on the ministries, schools and churches in her community.
